Collecting high-quality visuals for visual inspection and identification tasks needs an accurate sensor. Recently, Dr Yang CHAI, the Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Physics, PolyU and Prof. Jong-Hyun AHN of Yon Sei University developed a vision sensor with photosensitivity. The sensor is inspired by the retina. It is made from molybdenum disulfide phototransistors, a thin semiconductor. It offers visual adaptation with highly localized and dynamic modulation of photosensitivity under different lighting conditions. It is beneficial to the development of self-driving vehicles and industry 4.0. The research paper is published on Nature Electronics.
