Name of the equipment

Pro-Nitro M Kjeldahl Steam Distillation unit

Brand

J.P. Selecta

Description

Pro-Nitro M Kjeldahl Steam Distillation unit is used for determination of organic nitrogen and protein according to Kjeldahl Method. It offers automatic NaOH dosage and temporize stop. It provides a sample steam distillate and an alkali adding in safety way. The unit have the following systems:

  • The steam generator

Generates steam from the water reservoir placed at the top of the unit.

The steam generator includes two safety devices:

  • Safety thermostat: Cuts the electrical power to the heater when overtemperature is detected on the steam generator. (Probably for poor level of water)
  • Pressure switch: Cuts the electrical power to the heater when there is an over-pressure on the steam generator.

Also includes a conductivity sensor to keep a constant level of water in the steam generator.

  • The distillation circuit

It is made mainly by two glassware parts:

  • The splash protector: Its special design avoids that NaOH splash reach the cooler glassware.
  • The cooler: It condensates the steams that are leaking from the sample. This glassware is cooled by a water circuit that comes from an external tap. An internal valve opens and closes this circuit automatically.
  • NaOH addition system

Composed by a properly specified pump to dispense NaOH directly to sample tube when distillation is running.
