Hosted by the Policy Research Centre for Innovation and Technology (PReCIT) and supported by the Department of Applied Social Sciences and Global Engagement Office, the third in the “Consul General Talk Series” was held on 21 November. Ms Israt Ara, Consul General of Bangladesh in Hong Kong, was invited to speak under the theme “Promoting Partnership between Bangladesh and Hong Kong in ICT for a Knowledge-based Economy”.

Prof. Christopher Chao, PolyU Vice President (Research and Innovation) and Director of PReCIT, stated that collaboration between Hong Kong and Bangladesh will contribute to the growth of a knowledge-based economy. He also highlighted PolyU’s newly-established partnership with Jahangirnagar University, one of the top universities in Bangladesh.

Referring to Hong Kong as a global financial hub and innovation centre, Ms Ara highlighted the potential collaboration opportunities between Hong Kong and Bangladesh in research, human resource development, technology transfer, cybersecurity and more during the transition from a “Digital Bangladesh” to a “Smart Bangladesh”.

Through the Hong Kong-based diplomats sharing their perspectives, the “Consul General Talk Series” serves as a platform for the PolyU community and the general public to explore the I&T development and policies, as well as the opportunities and prospects in the Belt and Road countries.
