Two important collaborations were recently announced to further research on myopia management and promote commercialisation of vision health innovations.

The first follows the successful collaboration between PolyU and HOYA Vision Care on the myopia control lens MiYOSMART. A new clinical study funded by HOYA and conducted by PolyU researchers has developed a more effective treatment for children experiencing rapid myopia progression. HOYA is offering over 700 pairs of glasses fitted with its proprietary D.I.M.S. lens technology to assess effectiveness in controlling fast-progressing cases.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Eye and Vision Research (CEVR) entered into a collaboration with DEFTA Partners to promote technical transfer and commercialisation of advanced vision research. Leveraging DEFTA’s business networks and experience in nurturing startups, CEVR can expand partnerships with Japanese companies and translate more research outcomes into physical products.

Both collaborations represent a commitment to developing evidence-based vision care solutions and driving innovations to market. The HOYA-PolyU study will enhance understanding of high-risk myopia and potentially improve management strategies. Meanwhile, the CEVR-DEFTA partnership provides a pathway for translating cutting-edge vision health research into applications and commercial solutions worldwide through DEFTA’s expertise and connections.

Together these partnerships demonstrate how academia-industry collaboration can create greater positive societal impact through cooperative approaches combining clinical evidence and commercialising opportunities.
