PolyU recently hosted the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance (JHMUA) Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum. Over 130 representatives from the Alliance’s 38 member institutions convened on campus to discuss collaboration in areas including talent development and research on innovative technologies.

 

In her opening remarks, Ms Liu Jin, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs) of the Ministry of Education, encouraged leveraging complementary strengths across the Alliance.

 

PolyU President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng reflected on JHMUA’s pivotal role since its establishment last year. He highlighted PolyU’s partnerships with Wuxi and Nanjing through the establishment of joint research institutes, driving regional innovation.

 

Mr Jiang Yong, Director-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, delivered a video address. Prof. Wang Yonggui, Deputy Director of the School Affairs Committee of Nanjing Normal University, summarised accomplishments of JHMUA and future plans to deepen resource integration.

 

Also attending the event were Dr Choi Yuk Lin, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR; Ms Wu Cheng, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government (LOCPG) in the HKSAR; Mr Li Yongxian, Director of the University Office under the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the LOCPG in the Macao SAR; Mr Teng Sio Hong, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR; and Prof. James Tang Tuck-hong, Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee.

 

In the Presidents’ Forum, leaders from Nanjing University, University of Macau and PolyU shared best practices in talent cultivation, scientific research and confronting new challenges. Delegates also discussed topics that included AI, big data and industry collaboration.

 

Following discussions laying the groundwork for ongoing advancement, PolyU hosted an appreciation dinner. Distinguished guests included Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, former Chief Executive of the HKSAR, and representatives from JHMUA’s 38 member institutions spanning Jiangsu Province, Hong Kong and Macao.

 

The productive annual meeting reinforced JHMUA’s mission of openness, sharing and diversity through regional exchanges.
