PolyU and Cell Press recently joined forces to host the Nexus Forum 2024. The Forum brought together brilliant minds under the theme of “Sustainable Exploration of Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation”, creating a platform to explore innovative research across different disciplines. With a focus on applied sciences, engineering, technology, and interdisciplinary studies, the Forum addresses some of the most pressing global challenges through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions.

Bringing together over 150 participants from around the world, the two-day Forum boasted an impressive line-up of international keynote speakers. Distinguished experts from Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Japan, and the Mainland came together to share their wisdom. Authors, session chairs, PolyU staff members and students eagerly joined this gathering of innovative thinkers.

The Forum kicked off with an opening ceremony, officiated by Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President; Professor Chen Qingyan, Chair Professor of Building Thermal Science and Director of the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR); Professor Jerry Yan, Chair Professor of Energy and Buildings and Editor-in-Chief of Nexus; and Dr Peter Lee, Vice President of Editorial Strategy and Innovation at Cell Press and Editor-in-Chief of Immunity. They warmly welcomed the international audience, setting the stage for an engaging and impactful Forum.

The Forum featured stimulating discussions by keynote and panel speakers on four main topics, covering interdisciplinary solutions for sustainable futures, innovative materials-based solutions, carbon neutrality and energy system transformation, and smart data-based science and technology. These discussions fostered thought-provoking exchanges between the presenters and participants, emphasising the pivotal role of cross-discipline innovation and research in shaping a sustainable future for all.

The Nexus Forum 2024 not only showcased innovative research but also marked a remarkable partnership between Cell Press and PolyU. Nexus, as Cell Press’s inaugural partner journal in physical sciences, is the first title published in collaboration with a university. This partnership signifies Cell Press’s continued growth in open access physical sciences titles, joining the ranks of Cell Reports Physical Science and Cell Reports Sustainability.
