PolyU is dedicated to leveraging its research expertise and facilitating knowledge transfer to advance the Nation’s economic and scientific development. As part of this strategic effort, we are establishing technology and innovation research institutes in key Mainland cities. These institutes are strategically positioned to align PolyU’s strengths with local industrial and societal needs.

Reflecting this commitment, PolyU recently held the unveiling ceremony for the PolyU-Daya Bay Technology and Innovation Research Institute in Huizhou, in collaboration with the Huizhou Municipal People’s Government and the Huizhou Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone. The event marked a significant milestone, attended by senior figures from PolyU and Huizhou’s municipal government, including Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU; Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU; Mr Arthur Lee Kam-hung, PolyU Council Member; and Mr Liu Ji, Secretary of the Huizhou Municipal Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Huizhou Municipal People’s Congress, along with other senior management and officials.

A new era of local technological advancement

At the ceremony, PolyU scholars highlighted four key research areas of the Research Institute, namely new materials and new energy, green chemistry and sustainable catalysis, spatial computing and imaging, and green and smart manufacturing. These areas address current industry needs while paving the way for future advancements.

Additionally, the Research Institute celebrated partnerships with eight local enterprises, fostering technology transfer and application. The inaugural Daya Bay scientific seminar, titled “Technological Innovation in Fostering the New Productivity”, was also held, providing forward-looking insights for officials, researchers and business representatives on how technological innovation can enhance productivity, as well as highlighting the trends and challenges of industrial transformation.

Looking ahead, the Research Institute aims to become a model of cooperation between Huizhou and Hong Kong. By leveraging the solid foundation and policy support of the Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone, it will introduce Hong Kong’s expertise to Huizhou’s industrial landscape. This will accelerate the establishment of green and low-carbon systems, enhance manufacturing development, and build competitive industrial clusters in petrochemical energy, new materials, and electronic information.
