Academic achievements at PolyU continue to gain recognition, with three distinguished scholars elected as Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE) in recognition of their exceptional contributions. They are: (Listed in alphabetical order of surname)

 

Professor Tao Xiaoming

Professor Tao Xiaoming
Chair Professor of Textile Technology, School of Fashion and Textiles and Director of Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems

 

Professor Tao is renowned for her research in smart materials and structures, textile physics and intelligent wearable systems. Her innovations have earned her numerous accolades, including a Gold Medal at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in 2023. She is also Fellow of several prestigious institutions, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Ir Professor Yin Jianhua

Ir Professor Yin Jianhua
Distinguished Research Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

 

Professor Yin has played a leading role in developing advanced soil testing equipment and innovative fibre optical sensors, while establishing a large-scale multi-purpose physical modelling facility for studying geo-hazards. He has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Contributions Medal in 2017 from the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics.

Ir Professor Zhao Xiaolin

Chair Professor of Civil Infrastructure, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

 

Professor Zhao is internationally renowned for his work on improving the resilience and safety of engineered structures. His expertise and sustained international leadership have earned him the prestigious Thomas Medal from the International Institute of Welding. He is listed among the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists in the field of Civil Engineering, according to an index compiled by Stanford University.

HKAE Fellows are a distinguished group from various disciplines, who are recognised as leaders in their professions, with remarkable achievements in engineering sciences and applications. Eleven professionals were inducted as Fellows this year.
