Programme Aims
The BSc (Hons) in Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence aims to cultivate financial technologists who can develop intelligent software applications and innovative finance solutions, by equipping them with good fundamental computing knowledge with a focus on AI, sound finance concepts and strong intellectual and practical skills, which enable them to apply computing technologies in finance and related areas. They are expected to be adaptive to the fast-changing technology, economic and social environments of today.
Characteristics
BSc (Hons) in Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence:

An interdisciplinary curriculum that covers software engineering, systems security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptocurrency, crowdfunding and e-finance, big data and other related areas.

Students with backgrounds in Arts, Science or Business can apply.
Career Prospects
BSc (Hons) in Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence graduates are expected to become financial technologists who can fill the talent gap in the fast-growing FinTech field. Opportunities in FinTech are extensive both in Hong Kong and worldwide and include careers such as financial consultants, AI consultants, financial data analysts, FinTech system developers and entrepreneurs.
Professional Recognition
- The programme has been granted full accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).
- Graduates can apply for membership in the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Students are admitted to the senior year of the 4-year degree programme. They must complete all of the following requirements for graduation.
General University Requirements (9 credits)
a. 6 credits in Cluster-Area Requirement (CAR)
Students should not take more than 3 credits from the same cluster area. They also need to fulfil the English and Chinese reading and writing requirements. Students may apply for a waiver if they have fulfilled the English and Chinese reading and writing requirements in their previous studies.
b. 3 credits in Service-Learning
c. Essential Components of General Education (a non-credit bearing subject)
Students will be required to take the General Education which comprises of National Education, Online Tutorials in Academic Integrity, Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA) and Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE) e-modules.
Remarks: Students not meeting the equivalent standard of the Undergraduate Degree Language Communication Requirements (LCR) based on their previous studies in AD/HD programmes and their academic performance will be required to take additional credits (6 in English and 3 in Chinese) on top of the programme's normal credit requirements.
Core Subjects and Electives (51 credits)
Students are required to opt for a specified stream when they are admitted to the programme. Detailed study patterns depend on award requirements and are determined on an individual basis.
Work-Integrated Education
To graduate, every student must complete at least 312 hours of Work-Integrated Education (WIE). The department has developed opportunities for students to work in accounting or financial firms during summer in Hong Kong or the Chinese mainland. These, and other forms of work experience, can count towards the WIE requirement.

Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview, which aims to understand the potential for and interest of applicants in the award, to ascertain their understanding and expectations of the discipline of study and career, and to evaluate their language and communication abilities.
