Reimagine education awards
2022 / 23
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) teams received one Gold and one Silver award at Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education 2022, being the only institution in Hong Kong to have won two awards. The winning projects are “Virtual Hospital”, which was developed by Dr Justina Liu, Associate Professor of School of Nursing and Dr Kitty Chan, Senior Teaching Fellow of the same school, and the interactive mobile app “Capstone Ninja’, developed by the English Across the Curriculum (EAC) project team led by Dr Julia Chen, Director of the Educational Development Centre.

Two winning teams respectively led by Professor Daniel Shek, Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme) of PolyU, and Dr Fridolin Ting, Senior Teaching Fellow at the Department of Applied Mathematics of PolyU, received one Gold, one Silver and one Bronze prize in the 2021 Awards.
Professor Shek and his team won the Gold Award in the “Nurturing Wellbeing & Purpose” category for their “Leadership and Intrapersonal Development Programme”. Meanwhile, Dr Ting’s team received a Silver Award in the “Science of Learning” category for their project on “Innovative PALMS Drawing Pedagogies and Apps to Increase Active Learning in Mathematics and Science”. A second project of the team on “Developing Active Learning Pedagogies and Mobile Applications in High School Mathematics Education” also achieved a Bronze Award in the “K12” category.
2020 / 21
Dr Fridolin Ting and his project team have passed through five rounds of judging, winning themselves a Bronze Award under the category of “Science of Learning”. The awards in this category are given to the projects that most successfully further scientific, humanistic and critical theoretical understanding of learning; engage in the design and implementation of learning innovations; and consequently improve instructional methodologies.

The Library’s project “i-Space: A Makerspace and Community for Students of All Backgrounds at the University Library” received the Regional Silver Award in Asia-Pacific and Cultivating Curiosity Bronze Award in the Wharton-Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education 2019. The i-Space was established in 2017 to promote the equality of opportunity for students from diverse disciplines and family backgrounds to access digital equipment. It provides entry-level digital equipment for students to try out and explore that may otherwise be inaccessible and unaffordable to them. It provides an experiential learning space for students to experience emerging technologies, explore knowledge in new formats and share ideas with their peers.

Dr Fridolin Ting Sze-thou and his team of UGC Teaching and Learning Pedagogic and Active Learning Mobile Solutions (PALMS) Project received three awards at the Wharton-Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education 2019.
Their PALMS project for STEM Tertiary Education garnered a Silver Award in the Natural Sciences Discipline Award category and a Bronze Award in the Hybrid Learning Innovation Award category. At the same time, their YoTeach! mobile application won the Bronze Award in the ICT Tools for Learning and Teaching Award category.
2017 / 18
The University’s Service-Learning and leadership education subjects received two awards at the Reimagine Education Awards 2017/18 for their innovative pedagogies and efforts in enhancing students’ learning experiences, making it the first in the world to capture four awards within two years in the respective categories.
Among them, the “Promotion of Children and Adolescent Development” Service-Learning subject scooped a Gold Award in the Sustainability category while the “Tomorrow’s Leaders” leadership education subject bagged a Silver Award in the Ethical Leadership category.
2016 / 17
PolyU academics scooped four awards at Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Reimagine Education 2016, in recognition of their innovative teaching and learning pedagogies. These global awards are the “Oscars of Higher Education” and PolyU was the only University receiving four distinguished awards.
A project titled Platform for Remote Controlled Physics Experiments led by Dr Peter Tsang Yuen-hong, Dr Mak Chee-leung and Dr Dennis Leung Chi-wah scooped the Gold Award of Regional (Asia) Awards.
A project titled Collaborative Learning with Technology – Peer Instructions with Clickers for Large Classes led by Dr Kevin Chan Hin-wang won the Overall Bronze Award in Best Use of ICT Tools category.
A credit-bearing subject entitled “Service Leadership” led by Prof. Daniel Shek took the Overall Bronze Award in Ethical Leadership category.
A Service-Learning subject entitled “Service Leadership through Serving Children and Families with Special Needs” led by Prof. Daniel Shek won the Bronze Award in Social Enterprise category.
