PolyU has introduced different professional development schemes and activities to develop the capacity for and make an impact on enhancing quality in day-to-day learning of students in PolyU.
Teaching and Learning Related Projects
PolyU offers a variety of project funding schemes with a view to enriching student learning experience. These schemes aim to motivate academic staff to engage in developing innovative and impactful approaches to enhance the quality of learning, improve learning environment and promote teaching professional development at cross-institutional, institutional and departmental levels. They include:
- Quality Incentive Scheme on Online Teaching (QIS)
- Special UGC Grant for Strategic Development of Virtual Teaching and Learning (VTL)
- Projects for Strategic Plan Initiatives on Learning and Teaching
- UGC Funded Cross-Institutional Teaching and Learning Related Projects for 2016-19
- Projects Funded by Teaching Development Grant
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
PolyU has been an edX Contributing Charter Member since December 2017. By 2018, 10 PolyU MOOCs have been launched with 260,000+ global learners enrolled with 10,000 completions. PolyU will continue to develop and deliver engaging Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) that integrate active learning and modern pedagogies to enhance the learning experience for participants on a global stage.

PolyU is committed to a 10-year revitalization plan to renovate the lecture theatres, general teaching rooms and informal learning spaces on its main campus (starting from 2015), to address the surging needs for innovation and transformation in learning and teaching in the era of widespread technological change. Refitted and new spaces feature modern, comfortable, user-friendly, and interactive environment with movable furniture, extensive writing surfaces, enhanced acoustics, and upgraded technologies.
