BBA-ISTL students won 1st Runner-up at Hackathon@UST

Miss LAW Wing Sum and Mr TSOI Ho Ching, studying BBA (Hons) in International Shipping and Transport Logistics, teamed up with Mr Kwok Ho Hin, a PolyU Design student, and won the first runner-up in hackathon@UST 2019. The award was attained with their innovative mobile app ‘IDIET’ that tracks diet habit on eating out with a reward system and provides health and meal suggestions based on algorithm. Hackathon@UST is an overnight competition organised by HKUST and Jardine Restaurant Group with over 90 teams from 31 countries joined to develop an innovative software idea to improve restaurant operations on 13-14 April.

Scholarship

HKSOA Student Exchange Scholarship 2019/20 – Open for Application

HKSOA Student Exchange Scholarship 2019/20 is now open for application. Value of Award: The value of award depends on the destinations which are listed below: Destinations Value of Scholarship for one semester (HKD) Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and Macau 15,000 Other Asian destinations 18,000 Non-Asian destinations 20,000 Eligibility: Outbound exchange students enrolled on BBA (Hons) in International Shipping and Transport Logistics offered by the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies (LMS). Higher priority will be given to the LMS students who study in some maritime related programmes, or who take maritime related subjects in the collaborating universities in the Chinese Mainland or overseas in Semester 1 or 2 of 2019/20. The outbound exchange recipients of the scholarships are not allowed to hold other exchange scholarship(s) concurrently. However, they are allowed to receive subsidies from PolyU which cover part of the expenses of the exchange programme. Selection Criteria: The scholarships are awarded to students who have strong interest in maritime studies and developing career in shipping and maritime fields. The scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of applicants’ academic merit, extent of participation in extra-curricular activities, community services and interview performance (if any). The applications will be forwarded to the Donor for final selection. Application: Details please refer to the flyer. Scholarship

TurboJET Scholarship 2018/19 – Open for Application

TurboJET Scholarship 2018/19 is now open for application. Number of Award & Eligibility: Two scholarship will be awarded to local full-time UGC-funded penultimate-year students from BBA (Hons) in International Shipping and Transport Logistics. Value of Award: The value of each scholarship is HK$10,000. The tenure shall be for one year only. Conditions of Award: Shortlisted candidates may be invited to attend a selection interview in-person (tentatively in July 2019) with the Donor, the decision of which should be final. The awardee must attend a one-day familiarization program hosted by the Donor in August 2019. The awardee is expected to attend any award presentation ceremony organized by the Donor and/or PolyU. Application: Application form can be obtained from the HERE. Completed application form should be returned to the General Office of Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies (Room M628) on or before 17 June 2019 (Monday).

Visit and Seminar on Three-runway Projects

On 15 March 2019, a group of LMS students visited the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and joined a seminar on The Three-runway System (3RS) presented by Mr Sean Cheong, Principal Manager, Civil Engineering, Projects of HKIA. Mr Cheong explained the master plan and management structure of 3RS, and covered key aspects such as environmental conservation and safety, etc. The seminar was followed by a tour at the HKIA Airside. Students had a chance to have a tour at the Sky Deck for an overview of the 3RS project.

Industrial Visit to Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre Limited

A group of LMS students and colleagues visited the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre Limited (LSCM) on 11 Jan 2019 (Fri) at Cyberport. The group was presented with selected technological development applications in logistics and supply chain. This was followed by a virtual reality (VR) experience session. The visit was inspiring and insightful.

Our LMS BBQ Gathering 2019 was held on 11 Jan 2019 (Fri) in Mei Foo. Over 20 current students, alumni, mentors, colleagues and friends joined this social gathering to exchange views and share laughter. It was a joyful and warm evening.
