Introduction
James Dai is currently Professor in the Department of Applied Physics. James received his PhD from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is a material scientist. His research covers the fields, from smart materials to electronic engineering, especially in biomedical ultrasound transducer fabrication and ferroelectric materials and devices. He has received the President's Award for Outstanding Achievement - Research and Scholarly Activities, and the 1st class Award of Guangdong Province Natural Science. Being an active researcher and teacher in his own research interests, he also serves as a committee member of the Chinese Dielectric Physics Society and Chair (elect) of Asian Ferroelectric Society. Prof. Dai has developed a very close relationship with students during his tenure as hall warden. He has enjoyed engaging with hall students in activities such as playing music and sports. He encourages students to enjoy what they do and to embrace spirit of adventure and curiosity to explore the unknown. The Student Affairs Office is here to support students with the challenges they are facing.

Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with faculties/schools to identify gifted students and nurture the gifted students according to their talented domains Develop strategies for the whole person development of and support to gifted students Assist the gifted students to plan and achieve their development and work-integrated education/career goals, and provide timely help and advice to these students in achieving the goals Develop strategies for nurturing National Education of and support to PolyU students (e.g. organizing and training of Student Flag Raising Team); Oversee the Careers and Placement Section and Communication and Event Team of the Office to implement appropriate strategies and good practices on student support services
