On behalf of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), it is my great pleasure to welcome the water polo university teams and student-athletes participating in the PolyU Asian Universities Water Polo Invitational Tournament. Your participation will promote sportsmanship among neighbouring nations as well as advance the development of water polo in the region.
At PolyU, we are proud to have a strong and vibrant sporting culture to support the all-round development of our students. We have various schemes in place, such as the Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme which has been available since 1998, to nurture elite student-athletes and foster their dual-track development in both sports and academic pursuits. Our passion for sports arises from our belief that sports can cultivate many desirable characteristics in young people, including perseverance, teamwork, resilience, and self-discipline. These qualities can not only help young people in their academic studies but are also essential in overcoming challenges in life.
To all six teams, I encourage you to give your best in the tournament and wish you luck! I anticipate highly competitive and exciting matches. I also wish all visiting players and guests a pleasant and enjoyable stay in Hong Kong.
