The Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong SAR organised a seminar with around 200 staff and students in attendance on PolyU campus on 24 November 2023. Our President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, Vice-President (Student and Global Affairs) Prof. Ben Young, and Dean of Students Prof. Albert Chan, along with the university management, warmly welcomed the delegation, led by the honourable guest speaker of the event Deputy Commissioner Fang Jianming.
Under the topic of “Current International Situation and China’s Diplomacy,” Deputy Commissioner Fang Jianming provided a comprehensive overview of the current international situation and the major changes unseen in a century. He decoded the four dimensions of China’s major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, which include its overall objectives, basic principles, key focus areas, and important cooperation platforms. He also expressed his welcome for PolyU and other tertiary institutions in Hong Kong to expand their cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
In his address, President Teng expressed gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Fang Jianming for sharing his insights and perspectives with the attending students and staff of PolyU. He highlighted PolyU’s commitment to nurturing the younger generation as pillars of society who contribute to the development of Hong Kong and the nation. The President expressed his hope that the seminar would enhance the understanding of the attendees about the country and the world. The President then took a photo with Deputy Commissioner Fang Jianming and conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the longstanding support by the Commissioner’s Office for PolyU.
