Message from the Dean
The Student Affairs Office (SAO) takes pride in presenting the Annual Highlights for the academic year 2023/24. This publication showcases our unwavering commitment to nurturing the holistic development of our students and fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community.
As we look back over the past year, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the unwavering enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by every member of the SAO team. Our dedication to student success shined through as our PolyU Sports Teams clinched the Grand Slam title for the sixth consecutive year. We rejoiced in the triumphs of the PolyU Sportsmen for the 2023 Asian Games and World University Game, underscoring our commitment to supporting and nurturing sporting excellence.

Student Resources and Support
Since its establishment in January 2023, the PolyU Student Flag Raising Team has trained over 70 undergraduate and postgraduate students to perform flag-raising ceremonies on important days, such as New Year’s Day, HKSAR Establishment Day, the anniversary of the founding of PolyU and National Day. The team recruits new members every semester and provides training offered by professional organisations, such as the Hong Kong Army Cadets Association.
A total of 31 and 17 PolyU athletes participated in the 2023 Asian Games and World University Games respectively, bagging
four medals at the Asian Games and two medals at the World University Games.
SAO celebrated the triumphs of these PolyU sportsmen and sportswomen on 6 February 2024, paying tribute to the remarkable achievements of our dedicated PolyU student-athletes who shone at the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Chengdu World University Games 2023. The event provided an opportunity for approximately 40 student-athletes, along with our medallists and senior management, to come together.
Launched in 2020, the University-wide mentorship programme “INSPIRE” is dedicated to enriching students’ holistic experience and facilitating their all-round development. Thanks to invaluable support from role models and esteemed leaders in the robust PolyU community network, over the years the programme has consistently achieved success. To-date, the cumulative numbers of mentors and mentees have reached over 400 and 1,600 respectively.
The High Table Dinner cum Dean of Students Talk Series, held on April 8 at Hotel ICON, brought together over 300 students, guests, and senior management was a resounding success.
The evening began with a warm welcome from President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, followed by a speech from Mr Charles Li, Founder and Chairman of Micro Connect, former CEO of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, and PolyU Honorary Doctorate recipient in 2023. During his talk, 'Developing A More Economically Inclusive Finance Market', Mr Li shared some profound insights. This was complemented by a captivating classical performance from PolyU Orchestra violinists, and a video showcasing PolyU's intercultural integration.
