The Presentation Ceremony for the Outstanding Student Award and Presidential Student Leadership Award 2023 was held on 26 March 2024. Subsequently, a celebration luncheon was hosted by the President, the Senior Management Team, Deans and Associate Deans from Faculties and Schools, and the Student Affairs Office on 22 April 2024. These events provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate PolyU's exceptional students who have demonstrated unwavering dedication to their academic pursuits and exhibited extraordinary leadership qualities.

 

We are delighted to announce that Miss Wong Sze Lam from the Faculty of Construction & Environment received The Most Outstanding PolyU Student Award, while Mr Wang Yanze from the Faculty of Engineering earned the President's Distinguished Student Leadership Award. We are immensely proud of all award recipients and the bright futures they are destined to create. Their dedication, perseverance and achievements serve as inspiration to us all.

The Appreciation Reception for Scholarship and Bursary Donors 2023/24 was held on 16 April 2024 at the Alumni Atrium. This joyous gathering brought together over 100 donors, guests, students and members of the senior management team, all united in celebration and profound gratitude for the exceptional scholarship and bursary donors.

During the event, President, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng and Dr Alex Wong expressed their deepest appreciation to all the donors, recognising their unwavering support to PolyU. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to those extraordinary donors who have generously supported our University's scholarship and bursary schemes for at least 15 years.

 

We were also honoured to welcome esteemed representatives from two organisations, Zonta Club of Kowloon and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, joining us to share their invaluable experiences, beliefs and aspirations in supporting education and PolyU.

 

Adding a touch of enchantment to the occasion, Mr Yaseen Shafayet, a talented scholarship awardee from the Department of Applied Physics, mesmerised everyone with his captivating guitar recital.

2024 PolyU Annual Talent Show

The 2024 PolyU Annual Talent Show was held at the Chiang Chen Studio Theatre on 21 March 2024. Co-organised by the PolyU Special Talents Admission and Recognition Scheme Residential College (STARS RC) and Red Student Halls of Residence (Homantin), it showcased the incredible talents of our PolyU students.

 

From pop songs and K-POP dance battles to ballet, and piano, violin, guitar, band and orchestra performances, our students dazzled the audience with their diverse skills. The event also featured a Bengali traditional dance performance and a unique Indonesian traditional instrumental recital by some of our international students, adding a touch of cultural diversity to the evening.

Legend of the Dragon Chinese Cultural Festival

A highly successful event, the Legend of the Dragon Chinese Cultural Festival attracted around 1,600 students, 32.8% of them are local students, 59.5% are non-local students, and 7.8% are inbound exchange students. The Festival featured more than 12 booths, showcasing traditional arts, authentic Chinese cuisine and the beauty of Chinese teas, and culminated in a Poon Choi dinner. Participants were immersed in captivating art exhibitions, experimented with Qipao dresses and even created personalized tote bags, while the dynamic lion and dragon dances, along with the elegant Qipao and Hanfu catwalk, left everyone in awe. The Poon Choi dinner was filled with laughter and camaraderie as people enjoyed the local flavours, while also during the evening there was a captivating performance from Sichuan that changed faces and traditional Chinese dance. The Festival helped foster a sense of unity and inclusivity, contributing positively to the campus environment and student relations. Overall, the event received positive feedback, with most ratings falling between 4 and 5 on the 5-point scale.



Limitless Festival 2024

Limitless Festival 2024

SAO organises the “Limitless” Festival, its annual signature event, to enhance inclusion awareness on campus. This year, around 500 staff and students joined “Limitless” Festival 2024. A kick-off ceremony, inclusive music performance, exhibition booths, SEN drama: stories and struggles of special educational needs (SEN) students, foot-painting workshop, inclusive sports experience, mental health first aid certificate course, latte art workshop and sharing on Universal Design for Learning were arranged in February and March. Through these activities, participants could gain a better understanding of SEN students and persons with disabilities, and better equip themselves to embrace diversity.
