Learning Cantonese is fun, challenging and rewarding. Let’s enjoy a fabulous moment in these workshops! It is specially designed for students who have arrived Hong Kong shortly and/or those with no prior knowledge in Cantonese.

- To listen and understand general terms in Cantonese.
- To construct simple sentences.
- To express your ideas and thought.
- To apply useful expression.
- To practise in situational dialogues (e.g. ordering food, shopping and bargaining).
- To introduce yourself in a confident way.

Ms Anna Cheung
Ms. Anna Cheung holds an MPhil degree in Linguistics and specialises in second language acquisition. She has developed her interest in Cantonese while studying under the supervision of Prof. Stephen Matthews, one of the authors of the influential work, Cantonese: A comprehensive grammar. She is currently working on a MOOC project on Cantonese.
張成芝老師
張成芝老師持有語言學研究碩士學位，專攻第二語言習得。她對粵語的興趣始於Stephen Matthews教授的影響。Matthews教授是具有影響力的著作《Cantonese: A Comprehensive Grammar》的作者之一。張老師目前正從事一個關於粵語的MOOC項目。
Apart from the EXCELL programme, PolyU offers a wide array of resources for non-local students to learn Cantonese. These resources include the following:
- Credit-bearing Cantonese courses offered by the Chinese Language Centre (For UG students only)
- Consultation on learning Cantonese (For UG students only)
- A Flipped Classroom for Cantonese Learning (For all students)
- An online course namely “Cantonese Language and Culture for Beginners” offered by HKPolyUx (For all students)
