Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship

LI Chu Tak, a PhD student with Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, is conducting a research on the topic "Learning Approaches for Scene Localisation and Quality Scene Reconstruction".
Realising that a single camera can play a vital role in robot ego localisation and navigation systems based on its richness of information and cost-effectiveness, the research project has extended the visual navigation to other aspects such as indoor guided tour and substitute for guide dogs.  Chu-tak would like to improve the quality of life of the blind and visually impaired people in Hong Kong.

Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Disabled Student

FUNG Hong Wang, a PhD student with Department of Applied Social Sciences, received the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Disabled Students in 2019/20 and 2020/21.
Hong-wang’s research project with topic “Development and pilot evaluation of a web-based psychoeducation program for people with pathological dissociation” develops a web-based psychoeducation program for people with pathological dissociation, which is a common reaction to trauma (e.g., childhood abuse). This could provide timely support for those who could not access face-to-face dissociation-specific services. During the web-based program, participants could learn how to better cope with their post-traumatic and dissociative reactions (e.g., flashbacks of painful memories, trauma-related phobias).
