Campus Access and Emergency | Student Affairs Office

Students can access the PolyU campus by taking various kinds of public transport e.g. MTR or bus. If wheelchair-bound students need to take taxi to /from campus, they may consider the service provided by Diamond Cab (Tel: 2760 8771). For details, please browse https://diamondcab.com.hk/zh/
All buildings on campus do comply with the Statutory Regulations for "Buildings to be Planned for Use for Disabled Person".
Most buildings on campus are accessible via ramps or lifts. Improvements have been and will continue to be made to improve accessibility and safety. Ramps and stair lifts are available to facilitate people with disability or special needs to travel between the main campus and Block Z. A wheelchair is also available at the guard booth near the subway adjacent to Lee Shau Kee Building (Block Y) to help crutch-users use the stair lift.
Signs indicating the location of washrooms are available inside every building.
Students with disability or special needs are advised to familiarize themselves with major escape routes within the buildings which they usually have their lectures or activities. Lift lobbies are usually the refuge points (protected areas between fire doors) which are accessible by the fire service and security staff. In the event of an emergency, students with mobility difficulties may consider staying at refuge points and contact our security staff at 2766 7999 for assistance.

On hearing the fire alarm, the teaching/supporting staff at the premises should alert students with hearing impairment to evacuate.

Please make sure you have reported to the Hall Administration about your hearing impairment if you are a hall resident. The Hall Administration will assign you to a room on the lower floors. In the event of a fire, please stay calm, go to the nearby fire staircase and leave the building. Security Control Room would also pass your information to the firemen for support.

On hearing the fire alarm, the teaching/supporting staff at the premises should, if it is safe to do so, escort the visually impaired student to the nearest fire escape route and leave the building, and, if evacuation is impossible, stay at the fire staircase, fireman’s lift lobby or temporary refuge space (if provided) and wait for the firefighter to come for evacuation. The student can also call the FMO’s emergency team via the nearby emergency telephone or call 2766 7999 to seek assistance from our campus control centre if no one nearby is able to help.

In the event of a fire , please stay calm andrequest nearby hall-mate(s) to assist you to go to the nearest fire staircase and leave the building.

If you could not mobilise help from others and you could not escape by yourself, please inform the Property Management Office (Tel: 3996 2099 (for HMT halls) / 3159 0099 (for HH Halls)) immediately about your location and wait for the rescue of the firemen.
