Mr XU Huafeng, a graduate of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering at PolyU, together with Mr LAM Yuen-yik and Mr YAU Pang-leung, graduates of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at PolyU, invented an all-terrain wheelchair and clinched the Special Prize from Technopol Group and a Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 3rd Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions (AEII) Award held in Hong Kong from 7 to 8 December 2023.

Equipped with a unique wheel-belt system, the AIoT Empowered All-Terrain Personal Vehicle incorporates AI technology and cutting-edge features to overcome the challenges of gaps, stairs, sand, and grass, granting users comprehensive, accessible experience handling rough terrains. The vehicle includes an app that provides real-time data for caregivers to track the user’s location and receive emergency alerts.

This innovation attracted support from the PolyU Angel Fund with funding from the Innovation and Technology Commission, aiming to translate the research outcomes into the market. Mr XU has been selected as a finalist in the innovation category for the 2024 Spirit of Hong Kong Awards.
