Celebrating its momentous 60th anniversary, the PolyU School of Design is proudly hosting the annual PolyU Design Show, a major highlight of the anniversary celebration. The Show showcases over 200 innovative projects by PolyU’s emerging designers from various disciplines, exhibiting capstone projects to interdisciplinary research. Visitors are invited to an immersive “phygital” experience, where the physical and digital seamlessly blend, providing a fresh and dynamic perspective on Hong Kong's cityscapes and a retrospective journey through the Show's remarkable six-decade history.

The annual Design Show has been a highlight for the creative and innovation industries in Hong Kong since the 1970s. This year’s Show adopts a diamond as its visual theme, symbolising the students’ journey of refining their skills and thoughts to craft designs that benefit individuals, society and the economy.

Highlights include a mobile application designed to foster positive financial habits in children; a redesigned seamless public transport system for Hong Kong; a social design project to improve living conditions for residents of subdivided units; and an unmanned, innovative dim sum restaurant concept, among others. Additionally, the “phygital” exhibition by our Environment and Interior Design students redefines Hong Kong’s iconic cityscape through a blend of physical and virtual models, virtual reality technology, and interactive experiences.

The retrospective display of the Show traces the evolution of PolyU’s design programmes. It provides a historical overview of past exhibitions and student works, illustrating the growth and transformation of design education in Hong Kong.

Professor K. P. Lee, Dean of the School of Design, remarked, “This year’s Show not only pays tribute to this annual legacy but also provides a glimpse into the development of the design industry, as well as the future of design our students and alumni are forging.”

PolyU was ranked 19th in Art and Design in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. This ranking is a testament to the University’s international standing and solid foundation in design education.
