About Local and STEM Internships

In line with its commitment to nurturing all-round and professionally competent students, the University has incorporated Work-Integrated Education (WIE) as a mandatory component of the curriculum since 2005. The policy stipulates that all students enrolled on UGC-funded full-time undergraduate degree programmes are required to complete the component in order to be eligible for graduation.

If you would like to provide local internship opportunities, please contact us at 3400 3850 or career.cps@polyu.edu.hk. For non-local internship opportunities, please contact the Global Engagement Office (GEO) at 2766 5116 or wie.nonlocal@polyu.edu.hk.

If you are interested in selecting students from a particular faculty or department at PolyU, you may choose to contact the faculty or departmental liaison officer directly.

Internship Programmes

    • Students usually take up their internships from June to August for a duration of 6 to 12 weeks. For industrial or clinical placements where students are to acquire professional or technical skills, the duration can be as long as one year.
    • Students also have the flexibility to take up part-time jobs during the semester, depending on their course schedules. The requirements for students' fulfilment of working hours vary among different departments.

Other Types of Internships

Set up by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), HKSAR government, the STEM Internship Scheme encourages STEM students to gain innovation and technology (I&T)-related work experience during their studies and to foster their interest in pursuing a career in I&T after graduation, so as to enlarge the local I&T talent pool.

If there are no internship vacancies in your company or you do not need extra human resources, still you may consider allowing interns to take on special projects that can bring benefits and value to your business or operation.
