The PolyU 85th Anniversary Sportathon was successfully held at PolyU on 17 September 2022. Over 1,800 staff, students, alumni and their family members attended the event to enjoy game booths and sports competitions, in celebration of the University’s 85th Anniversary.

The Sportathon featured a wide range of activities from game booths and sports try-outs for families to exciting sports competitions, including futsal, 3-on-3 basketball, badminton and table tennis. Through these various games, the bondamong PolyU members has been greatly strengthened.

Another focus of the event was a variety of spectacular sports performances by our student-athletes – in sports such as artistic cycling, rope skipping, karatedo and taekwondo – winning ovations from our audience.

Talent Week

In celebration of the University’s 85th Anniversary, a Student Talent Night was held on 25 October 2022 with a 230-strong audience. Over 80 PolyU students showcased a wide spectrum of talents such as singing, dancing, martial arts and instrumental performances on stage. Mr Phoebus Ng, a PolyU alumnus and a member of the popular local boy band P1X3L, performed live on the evening to celebrate the joyful event together with the crowd.

Alongside the main Talent Night, other Talent Shows were run at the Global Student Hub on campus from 26 to 28 October 2022, with hundreds of audience enjoying the dynamic and lively performances.

The “PolyU 85th Anniversary Public Lecture Series” delivered three inspirational lectures by prominent speakers from various fields of society. One of the speakers was Ms Guo Jingjing, a multi-time Olympic gold medallist in diving, sharing her remarkable Olympic story with the topic “Splashing for Lights; Chasing our Dreams” and empowering young people to pursue their dreams. The lecture was attended by over 800 audience members on-site, together with 160,000 online viewers.

The other two lectures were given by PolyU alumni – Mr Jack Chung, President and Co-founder of Mission Until Dawn, and Mr Bayern Chui, Audit Partner of KPMG China (Hong Kong Office) and Outstanding PolyU Young Alumni Award winner in 2022, attracting hundreds of attendees collectively. Mr Chung shared his insights into building therapeutic
playgrounds for children in developing countries and Hong Kong, 
while Mr Chui shared his practical ideas for actualising his dream
step by step.
