21 Outstanding Athletes Enrolled to PolyU through Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme
PolyU has joined the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme launched by the UGC for the academic year 2022/23 to support outstanding athletes in their pursuit of dual-track career development. In 2023/24, 21 outstanding athletes have been enrolled into PolyU through this scheme. A scholarship worth up to HK$400,000 will be given to each outstanding athlete during their studies.
PolyU will provide different kinds of support for these studentathletes at both central and individual levels. At a central level, the Student-Athlete Support Coordinator (SASCO) will liaise with University’s departments, administrative units and external organisations to provide a one-stop service for student-athletes to help them balance their sport and academic lives. At an individual level, the SASCO will liaise with the Programme Leaders and Academic Advisors of each student-athlete to offer each of them an academic consultation. Teaching Assistants could also be arranged individually for student-athletes, in order to provide additional academic support. Counselling services are also available to student-athletes to support their pursuit of sports and academic development.
Outstanding Student Award & Presidential Student Leadership Award Presentation Ceremony
PolyU organises the Outstanding Students Award Scheme (OSA) annually to encourage students to thrive both academically and non-academically, as well as fostering their holistic development. The OSA is an initiative that is instrumental in achieving one of the University’s key missions: to nurture critical thinkers, effective communicators, innovative problem solvers and socially responsible global citizens.
In the 2022/23 academic year, 28 full-time final-year undergraduates were recognised as outstanding students at Departmental level as well as within Faculties or Schools. These awardees are all high flyers who have demonstrated great character, academic excellence, exceptional attainments in extra-curricular activities and passion for community service. Among the nine awardees of Faculties or Schools, Muskan Sunish Shah from the School of Fashion and Textiles was awarded the Most Outstanding PolyU Student Award of the Year. These high-performing students are all shining examples to motivate their fellow students to be diligent and committed, positive in their mindset at all times and socially responsible.
Launched in the 2022/23 academic year, the Presidential Student Leadership Award (PSLA) aims to recognise our student leaders who possess and have practised exemplary leadership qualities and skills, in the hope of encouraging students to develop their potential fully. This award also aims to identify outstanding student leaders, providing them with support to contribute to our society and the world.
This year, a total of 27 students from across different Departments, Faculties and Schools were selected for this award. 18 of them received the Departmental Award, while nine received the Faculty or School Award. Among the nine Faculty or School Awardees, Ng Ka Ho, a student from the Department of Applied Mathematics under the Faculty of Science, was granted the President’s Distinguished Student Leadership Award.
