CURI + STARS — Unveiling of STARS Residential College
CURI Residential College was established in 2021/22 to provide student residents with opportunities to develop their interests in research and innovation. In 2022/23, STARS Residential College (STARS RC) was also founded to develop residents’ potential in extra-curricular areas such as sports, music, art and STEM, all of which benefit their holistic development.
An Unveiling Ceremony for STARS RC was held on 6 October 2022 as a grand opening of the College. A plaque of Chinese calligraphy created by Mr Wu Moonhoi, PolyU’s Outstanding Alumnus and former Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Society, was gifted by Mr Wu to the College. He also gave an inspiring talk to STARS residents, sharing his personal experience through his successful career.
A STARS RC Talent Show was organised and staged by STARS RC resident fellows, tutors, residents and performers on 28 March 2023, demonstrating everyone’s efforts and various capabilities. This annual show attracted a huge audience from STARS RC with a variety of student performances, including pop song solos, Chinese classical music performances, a Kungfu showcase and a puppet show.

The new programmes run as part of the initiative consist of urban farming and harvesting, green cooking, elements of 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle), green innovation competitions, green volunteering and green excursions, aiming to nurture hall residents’ senses of sustainability, partnership and civic responsibility, as well as care for the environment.
Resumption of Normal Hall Activities
Hall activities are now back in full swing since semester 2 of 2022/23, after the years-long COVID-19 pandemic.
Inter-hall competitions are some of the most anticipated activities in students’ hall lives. To create even more bonds between local and non-local student residents, there were three inter-hall competitions organised in semester 2 of 2022/23, namely “Golden Snitch” Frisbee Competition, Tug-of-War Competition and Badminton Competition. Students all immersed themselves in the games with full energy and team spirit.
