Celebrating exceptional achievements in their professions and contributions to PolyU, four alumni – Mr Chiang Tung-keung, Dr Shen Peng, Mr Banting Sze Wai-pan, and The Hon. Perry Yiu Park-leung, MH, JP – recently received the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2024 (the Award). The Award Presentation Ceremony took place in December at Hotel ICON, attended by over 200 guests who gathered to commemorate this memorable occasion.

Mr Chiang Tung-keung

Mr Chiang Tung-keung
Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, CLP Holdings Limited
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (1994), PolyU

 

As the first Chinese CEO of CLP Holdings, Mr Chiang boasts over 30 years of experience, leading initiatives for decarbonisation and digitalisation. Equally impressive are his significant contributions to the PolyU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is currently the Chairman-designate of its Departmental Advisory Committee.

Dr Shen Peng

Dr Shen Peng
Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer, Waterdrop Inc.
Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management (2022), PolyU

 

As a serial entrepreneur, Dr Shen founded Waterdrop Inc. in 2016, transforming it into a leading insurance technology platform in Mainland China. He has received multiple accolades and actively supports PolyU through the INSPIRE Mentorship Programme and the Zhejiang University–PolyU Joint Centre Alumni Network.

Mr Banting Sze Wai-pan

Mr Banting Sze Wai-pan
Founder and Chairman, Freetech Road Recycling Technology (Holdings) Limited
Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (1989), Hong Kong Polytechnic

 

Mr Banting Sze founded Hong Kong’s only green road maintenance company listed on the stock exchange. He holds over 300 patents and has significantly reduced carbon emissions through innovative projects. He was an adjunct professor at PolyU and currently serves on the Departmental Advisory Committee of Mechanical Engineering.

Legislative Council Member (Tourism) of the HKSAR; Chairman, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited
Master of Science in International Hospitality Management (2015), PolyU

 

Hon. Perry Leung leads China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited and holds key tourism positions and roles in public service. He champions “Five-Colour Tourism,” enhances community accessibility, and supports youth development while contributing to PolyU as a Council Member and Director of Hotel ICON.

About the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Awards

 

In his welcome address, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President, praised award recipients for their achievements and expressed gratitude to the Selection Committee and supporters.

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of PolyU as a university, the PolyU Choir performed the “PolyU Song” at the beginning of the ceremony.

Aiming to recognise distinguished graduates of PolyU and its predecessors – the Government Trade School, the Hong Kong Technical College, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic – the Award also honours individuals who contribute to the University and positively impact the wider community. These recipients are a testament to PolyU’s success in nurturing leaders for Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world. Since its inception in 1996, a total of 109 graduates have received the Award.
