The PolyU Gala Dinner 2024 proved to be a resounding success, drawing over 800 distinguished guests and raising HK$18 million in donations to support PolyU’s pursuit of excellence as an innovative world-class university.

 

Held at the Hong Kong Convention Exhibition Centre, the event was graced by HKSAR Government officials, PolyU leaders and members of the PolyU community, celebrating the University’s 30 years of achieving university status.

Unite for strength, innovate for impact

Embracing the theme “Unite · Innovate · Impact”, the Gala Dinner was kicked off with a toast officiated by a distinguished group of guests, including Mr Michael Wong Wai-lun, Deputy Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government; Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU; Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU; Dr Lawrence Li, Deputy Council Chairman of PolyU; Ms Loretta Fong, Treasurer of the University; Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of the PolyU Foundation and Co-Chairman of the Dinner Organising Committee; Professor Alex Wong Siu-wah, Vice Chairman of the PolyU Foundation and Co-Chairman of the Dinner Organising Committee; Dr Daniel CY Chan, Co-Chairman of the Dinner Organising Committee; Dr Katherine Ngan, Court Chairman of PolyU; Professor Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU; Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of PolyU.

 

They were joined by representatives of the principal sponsor Mr Yeung Fan, Vice-chairman and General Manager of Glorious Sun Group and premier sponsor Dr Yeung Kin-man, President of Biel Crystal Holdings Limited.

A series of musical performances transformed the night into an unforgettable celebration of talent and joy, starting with the PolyU Choir, directed by Mr Alex Tam, sing the PolyU theme song. Dr Raymond Chan and renowned pianist Dr Vivian Cheng dazzled the audience with a piano and guzheng duo, earning thunderous applause. The evening also featured renowned artist Miss Cally Kwong, who performed a duet with Mr Michael Wong Wai-lun, leading the audience in a spirited singalong that brought the atmosphere to a crescendo.

Another highlight was a charity auction featuring eight exclusive items, generously sponsored by Dr Daniel C.Y. Chan, Ms Shirley Chan Suk-ling, Ms Fiona Cheung Sum-yu, Mr Louis Mak Law-mo, Professor Ng Yuet-lau, Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak and Ir Professor Tsui Tack-kong. All auction proceeds will be used to support PolyU’s academic and research development.

 

The venue also featured an interactive exhibition showcasing the impactful research and innovative achievements of the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR), offering guests insights into PolyU’s latest breakthroughs in research and innovation.
