PolyU welcomes the reappointment of Dr Lam Tai-fai as Council Chairman, alongside Dr Daniel Yip Chung-yin as Deputy Council Chairman and Mr Arthur Lee Kin as Treasurer. The appointments, announced by Mr John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, are effective from 1 January 2025 for a term of three years.

 

Leading in excellence and innovation

As an outstanding alumnus of PolyU, Dr Lam Tai-fai has made significant contributions to the University in various roles. His extensive cross-sector experience, broad social network, and exceptional management skills have been instrumental in supporting PolyU to overcome challenges and achieve rapid development. During his nearly six-year tenure as Council Chairman, Dr Lam has led the University's development direction, supported management in implementing development strategies, and spearheaded important initiatives, including the promotion of Chinese culture and enhancement of the new main entrance. Under his leadership, PolyU has demonstrated a strong sense of unity and commitment to exploring reform and innovation.

 

With respect to his reappointment, Dr Lam acknowledged the significant responsibility it entails and pledged his continued dedication to serving his alma mater, Hong Kong, and the Nation. He thanked the HKSAR Government and all stakeholders whose support has helped PolyU break into the world’s top 100 universities, including ranking 57th in the QS World University Rankings 2025. He envisions the University nurturing more socially responsible professionals and leaders with a strong sense of national pride and a global perspective for the benefit of Hong Kong and the Nation.

 

Distinguished leaders join University Council

The newly appointed Deputy Chairman of the Council, Dr Daniel Yip Chung-yin, is Managing Director of G.E.W. International Corporation Limited and a current PolyU Council member. His extensive community service includes roles as Honorary President of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Deputy Chairman of the Vocational Training Council, Chairman of the Steering Committee on Promotion of Vocational and Professional Education and Training and Qualifications Framework, and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Recycling Fund.

 

Mr Arthur Lee Kin, appointed as Treasurer, has over three decades of expertise in accounting, planning, corporate governance, taxation, and investor relations. Currently serving as Director of Finance and Risk Management at CLPe and Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Accounting Advisors Association, he was also a former Chairman of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Hong Kong.

 

On behalf of the PolyU community, Dr Lam and Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President, also expressed their gratitude to Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang, Deputy Council Chairman of PolyU and Ms Loretta Fong Wan-huen, Treasurer of the University, for their valuable advice and contributions to the development of PolyU over the years. Under the new leadership, the University is poised to reach new heights in the years to come.
