Engage with Students
SAO emphasises communication with students and explores every possible way
to connect with them. To maximise students' involvement in various kinds of
events and programmes, SAO Instagram (@polyusao) was launched in January 2022 for
all sections and teams to pass on messages to students, including promoting various
SAO events, student services
or programmes, student
development activities, and
caring reminders.
Apart from this popular
social networking platform,
SAO video was produced
for students to learn more
about the key services and
programmes provided by SAO.
President’s Sharing Session with Students

Enhanced communication and mutual understanding between the University and
the Students are always accorded with top priority at PolyU. Apart from the
President’s Sharing Session with Students scheduled at the beginning of each semester,
SAO also facilitates senior leaders from the University to meet with students to share
information and exchange views. In the academic year 2021/22, over 150 students
joined the President’s Sharing Session in hybrid mode on 27 September 2021, and
around 80 students turned up on 21 February 2022 via the online platform. President
Teng gave a presentation on the University’s latest development and achievements,
and together with the Central Management Team members, responded to issues and
questions raised by participants. The major areas of concern are about postgraduate
study, outbound exchange, catering service, and research support and development.
Dialogue with VP(SGA) is an initiative hosted by Prof. Ben Young, Vice President
(Student and Global Affairs), with a view to stepping up communication with
students, the key stakeholders of the University. During the dialogue, Prof. Young,
apart from listening to students’ views and concerns, shares with them the University
strategic goals, its progress and actions in the areas of student development, student
support services as well as cultural promotion. In the academic year 2021/22, a total of
7 Dialogues with VP(SGA) were held, targeting different categories of students.
The Education and Student Development Salon aims to provide PolyU staff
members with a platform to share and exchange experiences, ideas and best
practices related to education and
student development. 89 and 61 staff
participated in the two Salons online
with SAO as the topic contributing
office. In Sep 2021 and Mar 2022,
respectively themed “Student-oriented
Services: Counselling and Student
Support” and “Physical and Mental
Wellness Sharing”.
