Student Leaders’ Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Overseas Learning Trip
The 7-day GBA and Overseas Learning Trip took place from 7 August to 13 August 2023. It has been an eye-opening experience for the 24 student leaders of affiliated student organisations from diverse backgrounds. Led by our Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students and a colleague of the Student Development Section of the Student Affairs Office, this outbound learning activity has broadened the students’ horizons. The visit to entrepreneurial firms in Guangzhou has inspired university students to discover opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
The visits to Guangzhou could not have been so rewarding without the facilitation of our Outstanding Alumni Awardee cum University Fellow Mr Liu Sing-cheong, JP. His rich connection with entrepreneurs in the fields of insurance, home decoration and architecture has enriched the student leaders’ journey with innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. The itinerary was designed with an aim to advance student competitiveness by getting to know the unique DNAs of these remarkable entrepreneurs' successful stories. Our student leaders were encouraged to seize the opportunities by going for their passion with perseverance. They gained insights from the entrepreneurial sharing by another Outstanding Alumni Awardee Dr Hon Johnny NG Kit-chong, MH, JP.
Nurturing students’ global perspective is another core objective of the learning trip. The PolyU delegation met and had rich dialogues with the student affairs management of the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University Singapore. This student leaders’ learning trip has provided a golden opportunity to foster exchange among students, outstanding alumni, industry leaders and institutional partners from the mainland and overseas. It has inspired our student leaders to dream big and act boldly.
